At Bonton Associates, we believe education is a career-long pursuit, no matter one’s stage in their profession. We can’t think of a better example than our newest team member, Lisa Young, who joins #teambonton as a GIS (geographic information system) Analyst after 24 years in the natural gas pipeline industry.
Lisa supports our Clean Water Shreveport (CWS) group, where her extensive experience in utility and GIS database management will help the City advance its water and wastewater capital program and asset management processes. With her background, she brings a firm grasp on linear pipeline construction, which strengthens the geospatial insights the firm can now offer on water conveyance and infrastructure projects.
“Not only am I learning the logistics of water and wastewater systems,” she says, “but there’s also a whole new set of technical standards, processes, and procedures. I’m learning what’s important to others and how it affects their jobs and future projects. I do enjoy the challenge!”
“Last year, I went without water for ten days during the snowstorm, as did many Shreveport residents,” she recalls. “I found out that I can do without electricity much better than water. Now, hopefully, I can be part of the solution that prevents that ever happening again.”
As she transitions into the GIS role in a new industry, Lisa appreciates the Bonton culture’s focus on continuous skill development, whether education or keeping up with current technology. “This environment sets an excellent example for engineering and GIS students and jobseekers,” she says. “It should be valued by any person coming into the industry and by future clients.”
Lisa was born and raised in Haughton, LA, and earned a bachelor of arts degree with a social science minor from LSU-Shreveport. Away from work, she is a semi-professional painter and member of the American Portrait Society. (She had two pieces shown at the Smithsonian’s Ripley Hall!) Lisa also enjoys the great outdoors and recently hiked and climbed Box Canyon in Idaho to celebrate her mom’s 78th birthday.
We’re honored that she’s chosen to continue her career trek with us!
